Cucumber comes from the same family as melon, watermelon and pumpkin. It is grown in the countryside in the summer months and in the greenhouse for the rest of the year due to its sensitivity to low temperatures. High temperature and humidity favour its growth. It is a low-calorie and low-carbohydrate food. It has an appropriate fibre content, as well as vitamins A, B, C, E and is strongly hydrating – it contains only 13% of calories in 100 g, and 97% is water. With respect to the elements, the cucumber is a fruit very rich in potassium, iron, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.
