Onions have been known and liked for thousands of years. They have probably already been cultivated 5000 years BC – the healing properties and nutritional values of onions have already been well known then. Today, onions grow in all countries and is extremely popular in many cuisines. Sometimes it is presented as a symbol of simplicity and lack of familiarity – wrongly, because it is a tasty and valuable vegetable.
Onions contain vitamin C, as well as vitamins from the B, E, H, PP and K groups. They contain zinc, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and sodium. Sulphides, or essential oils of onions, give it a characteristic aroma. Vitamin C strengthens our immune system, it is also an antioxidant, which fights with the excess of free radicals causing aging and the formation of cancer.
