Nectarine – a variety of peach, from which the nectarine is distinguished primarily by the smooth (not hairy) skin of fruit. The origin of nectarines has been a mystery for a long time. It was suspected that it was a hybrid of a peach and a plum. However, genetic studies have shown that the lack of characteristic moss is the result of the recessive gene that is responsible for this feature of the plant.
It is most often used for direct consumption, as a dessert fruit, but it is also used as an addition to ice cream, cakes. It is also used for making preserves: jams, juices, compotes, liqueurs, jellies.
